Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences

The Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IPE CAS) traces its origins back to the Institute of Chemical Engineering and Metallurgy of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, established in 1958. IPE CAS currently houses several research institutions, including the National Key Laboratory of Interdisciplinary Science and Low-Carbon Engineering, the Key Laboratory of Biopharmaceutical Preparation and Delivery, the National Engineering Research Center for Green Recycling of Strategic Metal Resources, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences Key Laboratory of Green Processes and Engineering. The Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has two postdoctoral research stations in Chemical Engineering and Technology and Environmental Science and Engineering, and sincerely invites outstanding PhDs to join the institute.

The Computational Reaction Engineering Research Group focuses on green chemistry, reactor engineering, aerospace composite materials, and bio-metallurgy. Using models, numerical simulations, and advanced experimental measurement techniques, the group studies the mechanisms and patterns of multi-phase mixing, flow, transfer, and reactions within stirred reactors, crystallizers, circulating reactors, slurry bed reactors, fluidized bed reactors, and fixed bed reactors. The group invents new reactors and conducts industrial scaling and application to achieve energy conservation and emission reduction (green and intelligent), which has been applied in industrial production and GF of organosilicon, caprolactam, electronic-grade chemicals, etc., with significant economic and social benefits. The team has received the Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2023, the Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2019, the Second Prize of the National Technology Invention Award in 2015, and the Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award in 2009. Additionally, the team received the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Innovation Award in 2016, the Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award in 2014, the Asian Research Award from the Japanese Society of Chemical Engineers in 2012, and the China Youth Science and Technology Award in 2011.

The research team has led key projects under the National Key Research and Development Program (Ministry of Science and Technology), the National Major Scientific Research Instrument Development Project (National Natural Science Foundation of China), National Major Fund Projects, National Key Fund Projects, the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Class A Strategic Pioneer Science and Technology Special Project, and multiple corporate projects for Sinopec and CNPC. In recent years, the group has published over 300 journal articles; published one English monograph abroad and two Chinese monographs; applied for over 100 Chinese patents and 10 international patents; and obtained 48 computer software copyrights.
